Congratulations to students who participated in the District Individual Solo and Ensemble MPA’s (Music Performance Assessments) at Steinbrenner HS! These talented teens performed 67 solos and 22 ensembles all in just two days February 3rd and 4th! Each solo, (trumpet, trombone, saxophone, clarinet, flute, etc.), and ensemble, (clarinet duets, trumpet trios, sax quartets, and percussion choirs, etc.), is performed in front of a judge in order to receive a score of either Poor, Good, Excellent or Superior. Our band director, Mr. Miller, encourages all students to participate as it helps develop them musically and prepares them for upcoming Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble MPA’s later this month.
Those who played a level 5 or higher piece and received a Superior will be advancing to State in Orlando on March 23. There were 35 students that achieved this on various instruments including percussion, woodwinds, brass and even piano! Good luck musicians!
The Jazz Ensemble also performed at the Jazz MPA’s at the Carrollwood Cultural Center on February 9th. They received a Superior rating on their three piece performance and will also advance to State on March 23rd.
