Teacher Appreciation

One of our favorite things about being part of the Newsome PTSA is the opportunity to show our teachers how much they mean to us. Through dinners for conference night and things like our monthly appreciation gifts, we have a chance to give back just a little to those who give so much to our kids and our community. JROTC February Update

by: MSG Hannah Sullo, Battalion S7 NCOIC The Newsome Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Wolfpack Battalion comes out running in 2017. The Cadets are taking part in numerous team competitions, company led Service Learning Projects, and are currently preparing for their upcoming Military Ball. The Battalion’s six special teams continue to practice, compete, and bring home trophies. Flag Football workouts kicked off on Monday January 30th.  Workouts are currently being held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for one hour after school. Newsome Boys Varsity Lacrosse

Spring Lacrosse season is underway and the boys varsity team has already kicked off the season with some impressive wins! On February 7th they took on Alonso and brought home the win with a score of 16-4. Then, on February 14th, love was most definitely not in the air when they faced off against rival Bloomingdale high school where they won the game with a score of 18-6. Student Government Trip to D.C.

by: Jessica Den Haese This past November, Newsome’s Student Government had the incredible opportunity to go on an educational tour of Washington, D.C. for a couple of days to learn more about the United States Government and how it works. A group of twenty-six Newsome students embarked on an amazing journey to the Nation’s capital to see monuments, museums, and buildings that illustrated years of history and provided insight into the importance of the government of the United States. Newsome Graduation Rate Highest in Hillsborough County

In December, Hillsborough County Public Schools released the graduation rates for 2016. The county rate increased to 79.1% and Newsome High School topped the county with a 97.5% graduation rate!
